down pillows? How do they compare to a regular pillow and how are the "down alternatives?"

I love down pillows but not the dust mites they can produce? I have to buy new pillows and I was told that my pillows are causing my allergies to act up. Is there an alternative that I can get a really down feeling pillow without the dust mites?

Special covers for a down pillow? OK. This will sound dumb but I just bought these Tommy Hilfiger King Sized Down Pillows. They look good and for the most part feel good. Here's the problem. Our gross down pillows? I have some very expensive king sized luxury down pillows, which have changed from a white to a brown from my husbands sweat and my ignorance of not knowing what a pillow protector was... Are down pillows supposed to have an odor to them? I bought two down pillows recently. I believe they were $30 a piece. They smell like something I have not smelled before - maybe like something burned? I have tried Febreze, and even puting them in the dryer with a damp dryer sheet and nothing has worked. Allergic reaction to duck down pillows? recently i bought 2 gorgeous duck feathered down pillows that look really great on my bed. A few days later i started getting red, watery eyes, stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing, and post nasal drip. is this an allergy? as soon as i realized it was the pillows, i used my old ones and ny watery eyes, stuffed nose, and sneezing stopped. however, i still had (have) the post nasal drip though and it was (is) hell. im coughing for days afterwards, as it feels like someone is tickling the back of my throat with their fingernails. i cant sleep at all. what can this be? what medication is available OTC? i dont expect a diagnosis, just anyone who might have some experience with this...thanks!
