Featherbeds Knowledge Base
Is a featherbed or a fiberbed better? I was wondering if it is better to invest in a featherbed or a fiberbed. All of the featherbeds I have tested out in the stores seem uncomfortable because the "spine" (hard part) of the feathers may poke you. Let me know what you think and if anyone can suggest a good featherbed/fiberbed?
Featherbeds... info needed (o:? Are featherbeds hot in summer? My hubby gets hot at night but I need something more plush for our mattress b/c I have been hang backaches. How do you revitalize a tired old featherbed? I bought a really nice featherbed about a year ago; it's still clean and all, but when I fluff it out by hand, it just stays good for a few days then goes back down flat. Also, there is a ridge of hard feathers that always form between me and my husband, and we have to sleep in our personal "pockets" of featherbed. It's terrible!
What are the Yellowish Stains on My Featherbed? I have had a featherbed for about 9 years. I noticed today while cleaning that there are round slightly faintly yellowish stains on it. I don't pee the bed, so that is not what it is? Any ideas? Should I just throw it away or have it professionally drycleaned?
How to use a featherbed? My husband stayed at an inn where they had featherbeds. He raved about how comfortable they were so I bought one. Unfortunately, he can't remember the details of how the bed was made and the sales person couldn't tell me anything either. Does the featherbed go on top of the fitted sheet or under it? If it goes on top, does the featherbed need some kind of cover since the person would be sleeping directly on top of it? Thank-you for your help!
Where on your bed are you supposed to place a featherbed? Should it go directly over the mattress and the cover over it or does it go on top of the cover and you sleep directly on the featherbed? Should the featherbed go directly onto the mattress or should you put the mattress cover on first and then place the featherbed over that?
How do i clean a featherbed? ? My daughter had a her little cousin stay the night last night and her cousin slept on the bottom bunk and peed the bed. It has a feather mattress on top of the real mattress and I have no idea how to clean the pee off of it. Please help It's a twin size if that makes a difference
Can you machine wash a down featherbed (mattress pad)? I have a down featherbed and my youngest daughter had an overnight accident on it. I just paid $48 to have it dry cleaned less than one week ago, so I hate like heck to pay it again so soon. I found the manufacturer's tag on it, but there are no cleaning instructions at all. If I do wash it, I plan on taking it to the laundry mat and using the super large washer/dryer, but I just need to know if it can be washed first. Thanks!
How to get duct tape off fabric and can you wash it? So i have this featherbed that i use at school... after getting frustrated that the thing wouldnt stay on the bed... i duct taped it in place. now i have the dilemma that im not sure if i can wash the thing without the duct tape getting gooey and sticking to everything, and i have no idea how to get the stuff off - theres no way to take it off by hand or scrape it off.. and the tape covers a large portion of the featherbed. im afraid if i was it and put it in the dryer that im going to end up with one large sticky mess. any suggestions?
Where can I buy a really great fiberbed? I'm looking for an amazing fiberbed....like a featherbed but not with real down since I'm allergic. There seem to be so many on the market but I'm looking for the very best and was hoping someone could point me to a website or something where they are rated and ranked. Thank you!
what does a memory foam topper feel like? I have always only slept on a featherbed. I love the softness. I need a new topper and i am interested in the memory foam. It just looks so flat and hard? What does it feel like? Is it comfortable? Thanks!
Why are business "risk takers" in effect being featherbedded? The essential element of "capitalism" and "competition" is supposedly "risk-taking". Isn't that hypothesis a lie when in practice companies and corporations are effectively being subsidised and otherwise supported by government tax breaks, tariff controls, subsidies, and the like? They make big money for their directors, consultants, and shareholders. So why are they often featherbedded, with the "risk" element being mitigated?
Which is better a feather bed or fiber bed? I already have a foam topper so if i get a featherbed the quills won't poke me. Does it make any difference if i put a foam topper over a fibber bed? to make it more soft? Anyway, i'm looking for comfort and softness overall. Which one would be better? my mattress is also pretty old, and i can feel the springs sort of when i sleep, so yeah, i'd like a topper that can kind of get rid of that feeling too
Do you lay on top of or under a featherbed...or both? Friends of ours went to Germany and said that they were told to sleep under the featherbed. In the US people tend to sleep on top of them. Do most people sleep on top of it or under it or both. Sleep under in the winter (with a duvet cover) and on top of in the summer (under the fitted sheet and mattress pad)? I know featherbeds are heavy and it struck me weird that they would sleep under them in Germany but I guess it gets really cold. My friend thought it was odd too.
Can an extra long twin mattress pad fit on a normal size twin? I just bought an extra long twin featherbed mattress topper on sale for my dorm bed, but my housing assignment came yesterday and I did not get an extra long bed, just a standered twin. Could the mattress pad still fit even though its a few inches over on each end of the bed? Has anyone tried this? Thanks for the help.
Difference between featherbed/mattress pad? I'm going to college in the fall and on the list it says mattress pad. I have a bad back and want to buy the best one available so that I can sleep comfortably and am confused as to the difference of a feather bed, mattress pad, or a fiberbed. Any insight you can give would be helpful. Thanks.
Any have a Dux bed? Is it worth over $4000? I have tried five mattresses in three years, including the Tempuer-Pedic, a foam mattress, and several inner-spring mattresses. I have also tried both thick and thin memory foam toppers, a featherbed topper, and a latex topper, and still get back pain and toss and turn, mostly from pressure points. I don't like the fact that sleep number beds have that barrier in the middle, so I am considering a Dux.
