Are down pillows machine washable?

I have a down pillow that needs laundering. Can most down pillows be washed in machines? And is it okay to put them in the dryer?

8. lol well not really-they should be dry cleaned-but i have washed them but the fluffyness is gone soon after u do and u will find u never get the feathers out of your machine-lol-trust me!-
9. You can, but you'll never want to use them again trust me, as while they are wet they smell of dead flesh. I did this and nearly spewed my ring up when i took them out of the washer. Please take advice, get new one's. I can remember the smell now.........YUK!
10. Yes, you can wash them in the washer and dry them in the dryer, just take your time. Wash with light detergent on gentle setting. Re wash with an 8 oz. bottle of witch hazel ( which will ensure all hair and facial oils are rinsed from pillow) BUT without adding detergent the second time. Take out of washer and shake, shake, shake to loosen all the feathers and keep them from clumping. Dry 20 minutes at a time on medium or low heat. Take out and shake. Put back in for 20 minutes. etc. Make sure your pillow is very dry so it doesn't get smelly. Good as new.
11. I would definitely check the label on the pillow, if no label is there wash and dry at your own risk. Your best bet is to dry clean anyways, then you know the pillow is not wrecked, especially if your washer isn't a front loading washer, because washing pillows in top loaders usually causes them to become unbalanced, no matter what you wash it with.
12. Yes you can wash them. Throw a big bath towel in with them,it helps to fluff them when in the dryer.

14. i believe that down is dry clean only. my dad says down is very expensive and hard to clean. He on occasion uses that with upholstery in aircraft
15. depends on the price tag. mine are from Ikea. delicate cycle, for example wool or silk wash. not forgetting softerner. dryer at very low heat. 2 pillows in 1 load, you don't want to press them out of form. good luck!
